Abstract

Steele and Miller presented an alternative method of calculation for the WKB solution of the standard two-dimensional cochlear model. They claim that their results improve upon the original WKB calculations of Steele and Taber [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 65, 1001–1006 (1979)], notably near the resonance location. This claim is shown to be incorrect. A recently developed calculational procedure which does give better results than those of Steele and Taber is briefly outlined.
