Abstract

Gustavsson and MacEachron's (2011) article, No Foster Child Left Behind: Child Welfare Policy Perspectives on Education, articulates some important issues in the care of foster children. The authors suggest that foster children have lower academic skills, often must repeat grades, and can be generally academically challenged. The authors suggest the moves from home to foster homes, or placement mobility, and corresponding school mobility contribute to a depressed level of academic skills (p. 277).
