Abstract

The article under discussion is unique for its large numbers - 500 DSD patients ≥16 years old who had genital and/or breast surgery when younger and on follow-up, a “vast majority are satisfied with appearance and function”. Assessment of surgical results was made by patient self-assessment and physician inspection and whether the patient felt their surgery was appropriate for the gender or non-gender these individuals saw themselves. Not surprising were the more favorable opinions of the surgeons as compared to the patients themselves on the cosmetic appearance of their genitalia.
