Abstract

Abstract Drawing into conversation the work of two special issue authors, Redmond continues in exposition of the dangerous contradictions within and inherent failures of the state’s security and citizenship regimes through attention to minoritized testimony and translation. The author of memoir and courtroom or detention witness present as performers of vulnerable narrative projects that are sometimes playful, sometimes grave but always in critical contest, if not combat, with the designs of racial capitalism and exception. In attending to these moments of subversion and illegibility, new opportunities arise for retooling in defense against and circumvention of state procedure and possession.
