Abstract
lescents. However, relationship power is not an important variable for sexual abstinence and contraceptive behaviour. Self-efficacy is the most important variable in both studies. It indicated that personal confidence in practice is more important than partner pressure. Relationship power seems not as important as many scholars mentioned. However, we need more studies to confirm this hypothesis. Another issue mentioned by Hayter is that the model was about contraceptive behaviour; not sexual health behaviour. We agree that female adolescents focusing on contraception may use non-barrier methods that leave them vulnerable to sexually transmitted infections (STIs). In Taiwan, pre-marital sex and having a baby are social stigmas. Taiwanese female adolescents are more concerned about pregnancy rather than STIs. This is the reason why we focused on understanding factors influencing contraceptive behaviour. However, Hayter provides us with a good suggestion by which we can extend our studies to condom-use behaviour in future. We agree with Hayter’s suggestions that free, user-friendly, non-judgemental sexual health services for young people besides sexual education are important. I thank Hayter’s efforts for extending the discussion on my paper, which contributes to sexual health of adolescents.
