Abstract
Isolated mesenteric artery dissection involves dissection of the coeliac trunk and/or superior mesenteric artery (SMA) and/or inferior mesenteric artery. The present study deals with acute isolated symptomatic SMA dissection,1 which is the type of dissection associated with the most severe clinical consequences.2 A prerequisite for diagnosis of these patients with acute abdominal pain is high resolution computed tomography (CT) with intravenous contrast enhancement and imaging in the arterial phase; otherwise, a large proportion of patients will go undiagnosed.
