Abstract

In the case report entitled “Liver Trauma During Combined Liposuction and Abdominoplasty: A Rare but Potentially Lethal Complication,” the authors discuss the occurrence of an intra-abdominal penetration with liver trauma during the combined surgical procedures of abdominoplasty and liposuction on a 38-year-old woman.1 They note that while liposuction is a well-established procedure that is generally safe, complications do rarely occur. A review of the data acquired through the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF) Internet Based Quality Assurance and Peer Review (IBQAP) reporting system from 2001 through 2013 substantiates a low incidence of sequelae associated with liposuction alone.
