Abstract

Although still uncommon, cosmetic alteration is increasingly being sought by women unhappy with the size, shape, and/or appearance of their external genitalia. Aesthetic labioplasty, primarily reduction of the labia minora, is by far the most frequently performed female external genital cosmetic procedure today.1 Despite its increasing incidence, many plastic surgeons have little or no experience in performing aesthetic labioplasty. In “Labioplasty: Anatomy, Etiology, and a New Surgical Approach,” Dr. Tepper and his coauthors review the anatomy of the labia minora, the etiologies of labia minora hypertrophy, and the history of labioplasty, in addition to describing previously-published aesthetic labioplasty surgical techniques.
