Abstract

At last two major car manufacturers in the United Kingdom have taken practical steps to reduce the level of atmospheric pollution resulting from their spraying operations. Both British Leyland and Ford at Dagenham have started using the ICI Dispersymer process, a system which won the Queen's Award for Technological Innovation in 1969. It enables paint to be made with greatly improved application properties, because the polymer is dispersed in the solvents rather than being dissolved in them as is the case with conventional paints.
