Abstract
The matrix elements of the strain Hamiltonian between valence and conduction bands introduced by Jancu et al. [Phys. Rev. B 49, 10 802 (1994)] have been used earlier to describe a wide range of phenomena. Pseudopotential and empirical-tight-binding-method (ETBM) values of these parameters are available in the literature. It has also been shown that ETBM calculations similar to those used by Jancu et al. yield qualitatively incorrect values of these parameters.
