Abstract

It is pointed out that the phenomenon of multiplet mixing, when there are a number of relatively closelying resonances with the same values of the internal quantum numbers, renders inappropriate the use of the Gell-Mann-Okubo mass formula in attempting to judge the validity of the $\mathrm{SU}(3)$ symmetry scheme.
