Abstract

The review and analysis of the article ''Surveys and cultural resource management in Australia', by J. Stockton and P. Stevenson is discussed. The authors have made a valid claim that surveys to determine archaeological significance should be designed to take in 'regional/local' variability; however, unfortunately, because they do not clearly define why statewide significance criteria are inherently self-defeating in this regard, the credibility of their argument is diminished.
