Abstract

Measurements regarding the plasma-sheath instability have been described in a recent paper [Phys. Plasmas 26, 113502 (2019)] by the authors Paul and Chakraborty. They measured low frequency oscillations in a cylindrical, highly transparent grid electrode by using Langmuir probes and magnetic field sensors. This topic is very interesting for low temperature plasma physics, especially when it comes to the fundamental understanding of the stability of (multiple) double layers. However, it is questionable if the measured frequencies are originating from a plasma-sheath resonance instability as the observed oscillations are not consistent with the established theory of the plasma-sheath resonance instability.
