Abstract

In this peer-reviewed submission, which is a single-blinded, randomized clinical trial on 100 patients who were referred for bariatric surgery in Iran from 2016 to 2018, the authors’ objective is cited as 1 of comparing 3 different vitamin D treatment strategies. They measured serum vitamin D levels (as 25-OH vitamin D) among patients with Class III obesity before bariatric surgery and 7 weeks after and compared 25-OH vitamin D levels among the 3 groups. Exclusions from the study included patients with 25-OH vitamin D levels >30 ng/mL (deemed normal vitamin D level), previous history of hypocalcemia or hypercalcemia, and patients with renal or hepatic dysfunction.
