Abstract

In the current study, the authors provide a retrospective review of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) data registry of over 548,000 patients undergoing bariatric surgery and aim to characterize the prevalence and impact of preoperative weight loss (PWL) on elective bariatric surgery. They hypothesize that the trend previously well described continues to be on the rise and is in fact commonplace in bariatric surgical practice and that it would have an effect on postoperative bariatric surgical outcomes.
