Abstract

Brenner [Physica A 349 (2005) 60] has proposed that the diffusion creep velocity resulting from a concentration gradient along a surface is a consequence of a no-slip boundary condition on the fluid volume average velocity. It is shown that the proposed formula for the creep velocity contradicts Graham's law for isobaric diffusion in a passage, and is also in disagreement with a number of kinetic-theory studies.
