Abstract

A recent article by Pal and Bose [J. Appl. Phys. 78, 5206 (1995)] reports a photoluminescence measurement of the Cu-related 1.2 eV optical emission band in InP. By applying the configuration coordinate (CC) model they concluded that the ground-state phonon energy of the recombination center involved with this band is exactly the same as the TO phonon energy 38 meV at the Γ point. Also, it was concluded that for the CC model to be consistent with other experimental data presented, one should assume that in the CC diagram the phonon energies for the ground state hνg and for the excited state hνe, respectively, are significantly different. We have reanalyzed part of their data and argue that the conclusions may not be warranted.
