Patients with low acuity criteria were compared with patients with same-day discharge (DC LSG) or next-day discharge (CH LSG). With primary outcomes of 30-day adverse events, hospitalizations, reoperations, and readmissions, 1544 patients were randomized. The groups were comparable, and 2.3% of patients in the DC LSG group were transferred to the hospital for overnight stays. Additionally, 13 patients (1.7%) requested additional stay without a medical indication for a total overnight stay rate of 4%.
