Abstract

The recent publication in Eos of communications from P. J. Baum and A. J. Dessler (October 23, 1984, p. 770) and B. Ü. O. Sonnerup (December 25, 1984, p. 1242) about the peer review process has stimulated us to contribute to the discussion this statement of the editorial philosophy and practice of Geophysical Research Letters (GRL). GRL is, of course, a very different journal from the Journal of Geophysical Research (JGR), with different goals, function, and readership. Our contribution should not be understood as a statement of how JGR should work. The editorial goal of GRL is to provide prompt publication of urgent results of general geophysical interest.
