Abstract

Javandel et al. (1988) developed a hydrodynamical model that considers the influence of hydraulic communication between the host aquifer and nearby freshwater aquifers through an improperly plugged abandoned well on the change of hydraulic head of injection and monitoring wells. The authors solved this porblem with the help of the Laplace transformation and got solutions for the leakage rate and the drawdown in injection and monitoring wells in the real space. The solutions exist in the form of infinite integrals. These integrals were computed by an integration method, which was not explained in detail, and the results for fixed parameters were given in the form of tables and diagrams. For the application of this method to practical problems, additional results for special parameters had to be computed. For that purpose, the solutions in the Laplace domain were used in connection with the numerical inversion method developed by Talbot.
