Abstract

The authors of Ref.1introduced a new microscopicconstruction of a fractionalized Fermi liquid (FL∗) phase inat−Jmodel in a regime where no long-range order ispresent and no symmetry is broken. Such a FL∗-like modelof small hole pockets enclosing a volume determined by thedensity of dopant carriers alone is most suitable to describethe pseudogap phase of the cuprate superconductors. Thistheoretical framework is in good agreement with a numberof recent experimental results
