This paper looks at the bases for the cited depth‐distance corrections by Guust Nolet, Steve Krueger, and Robert M. Clouser (Paper 98GL01094, GRL, Vol. 25, No. 9, pp. 1451–1454, May 1, 1998), the historic curves of Gutenberg and Richter, and those given by Veith and Clawson (1972).
