Abstract

We read with interest the article by Lavezzi et al. describing Developmental alterations of the respiratory human retrotrapezoid nucleus in sudden unexplained fetal and infant death published recently in your Autonomic Neuroscience (170:12–19). This paper reports the location of the human retrotrapezoid nucleus (hRTN) homologue in the caudal pons between the facial/parafacial complex and the lateral superior olivary nucleus. This article acknowledges our previous publication on PHOX2b immunolocalization of the candidate retrotrapezoid nucleus in the human brain, in which we demonstrated the location of PHOX2b positive neurons representing the putative hRTN in the caudal pons and rostral medulla.
