Abstract

Northern Ireland has a long tradition of violence born from an ancestral antagonism of two communities. The author argues that non-violence and pacifism have not been accepted in the Province despite movements like the Peace People and spontaneous street demonstrations (Peace Initiative 93). However there is a strong desire for peace and the many networks which created the ceasefires and the Peace Process prove it. Will it survive the rough and pragmatic realities of daily politics ?
