Abstract

Throughout the 19th century, women writers sought greater visibility in a world of letters dominated by men. That is the reason why they do not hesitate to claim their place in the institutions that deals with most of the great literary works. The French Academy is not willing to open its doors to female authors; however, the new Goncourt Academy has already counted a woman among its members. Julia Daudet wants, after the death of her husband, Alphonse, to remain present in the world of letters. The unpublished correspondence analysed in this work shows how a misunderstanding, not exempt from a certain resistance to change, sets aside a more than a legitimate candidate
