Previously he was in the School of Social Work and Applied Human Sciences at the University of Queensland. Among his publications are Talking Policy (Allen & Unwin, forthcoming), Contemporary Perspectives on Social Work and the Human Services (Longman, 2000), Contesting the Australian Way: States, Markets and Civil Society (Cambridge University Press, 1998) and Australian Social Policy: The Keynesian Chapter (UNSW Press, 1994).
