Abstract

Commensurate-incommensurate (C-IC) phase transition in a two-dimensional (2-D) classical pseudo-harmonic model is discussed by using the corresponding 1-D quantum pseudo-harmonic model. The kink lattice formation energy is estimated as the sum of the classical kink lattice energy and its quantum correction of lowest order. The theory predicts that the kink-kink interaction becomes long range and attractive for a finite cutoff momentum and the C-IC transition is of first order.
