Abstract

The author, a specialist on the history of Siberian exploration and cartography, discusses the origin, context, fate, and significance of the "Godunov map" of Siberia of 1667. He concludes that this general map and a gazetteer, together with a number of detailed river route maps that are listed in the gazetteer but which have not survived, actually constituted an atlas of Siberia.
