Abstract

The passivity-based control (PBC) is robust with respect to great changes of the plant parameters. This propriety is ensured by the injection of height damping values in the controller. This leads, for some plants (e.g. permanent-magnet synchronous motors PMSM), to significant magnitude of the plant variables and, hence, the use of hard-limiters. This affects the PBC performance. In order to overcome this drawback, we propose in this work, a new approach of robust control of PMSM by combining the PBC and a variable structure compensator (VSC). This strategy can deal with great uncertainties of the plant parameters, without need to height damping values; because of the VSC term is based on the uncertainty boundless. Stability and convergence proprieties are established using Lyapunov stability tools.
