Abstract
Cycle and pedestrian paths, especially if they are outside cities with high traffic volumes, are an opportunity to experience unexpected landscapes and an opportunity to enhance territories that often represent fragilities, as in the case of many cycle paths in Europe and Italy. Cycle paths identified within existing or newly built paths must guarantee requirements related to safety, accessibility, and usability. However, the aspect related to the environmental performance of the space and the thermal comfort of cyclists in suitable areas should be taken into consideration, even if it is often overlooked. The paper takes into consideration an area along the route of the VENTO Italian cycle route that crosses the northern part of Italy, to analyze and propose some improvements that can increase the usability of the urban space.
