Abstract
To the Editor:— Almost all paramedical publications seem to have a preponderance of articles promoting the cause of specialized medicine and predicting the extinction of general practice. Year after year it's the same story. After awhile, if you continue to read these magazines, you could easily believe that what they say is true even though approximately one half of the physicians in the United States are general practitioners. Compare any specialty alone with the field of general practice and we are clearly not extinct. Are our busy general practitioners too busy to write or to teach in medical schools, too busy to be active in medical societies? Maybe the rugged individualist of the past is gone and the family doctor of today is interested only in making a living and being concerned about his own isolated thoughts. If this is so, then he is extinct. Certainly it w'll be up
