Abstract

Nanoscale MgAl2O4 powders were synthesized using porous cellulose membrane assisted combustion technique. Effects of ion concentrations in various solutions on characteristics of the as-synthesized powders were also investigated in detail. The experimental results revealed that presence of porous cellulose membrane altered combustion process from volume combustion to layer combustion, and made a significant contribution to high specific surface area of the nanoscale MgAl2O4 powders. The BET specific surface area of the MgAl2O4 powders was significantly increased as concentration rose from 0.5 M to 1.0 M, followed by a marked decrease with increasing of concentration.
