Abstract

Combustion process of a Helmholtz-type valveless self-excited pulse combustor with continuous supply of gas and air were studied. The basic characteristics of pulse combustion and the effects of the operating parameters on the pulse combustion were investigated. The results show that the pressure, temperature and mass fraction of propane in the combustion chamber have the phase relations and the combustion process stimulates the acoustic oscillation. The pressure amplitude in the combustion chamber is increased with the excess air ratio and inlet mass flow rate. The calculated results were compared with the experimental data and the deviation was less than 9%. The calculated results are in qualitative agreement with the experimental data. The temperature in the combustion chamber was decreased with the increase of the excess air ratio, and was increased with the inlet mass flow rate.
