Abstract

The most recent trace-gas sensing and frequency metrology applications are increasingly looking toward the mid-IR spectral region, also known as the molecular “fingerprint” region, pushed by the presence of the fundamental rovibrational transitions of many simple molecules (CO 2 , CH 4 , NO 2 , CO). The availability of high-power, narrow-linewidth and tunable IR laser sources like quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) offers the possibility to efficiently apply high-sensitivity spectroscopic techniques and high-precision metrology on IR-active fundamental rovibrational molecular transitions.
