Abstract

Combining ability and genetic variance were estimated through the use of 10 x 10 diallel cross of rice (Oryza sativa L.) for yield, maturity and plant characters. Both additive and non additive gene effects were important for the expression of the traits. Parents IR 54 and UPRM 500 were the best general combiners for grain yield in F as well as in F2 generations. The best two crosses IET 4141 x IET 6288 and UPRM 500 x IET 6288 which showed high sca effects for grain yield and other important traits involved both the parents having good gea effects.
