Abstract

Simultaneous tuning of conventional secondary controller along with different energy storage devices is presented in this paper. For each generating unit of an interconnected power system, in addition to primary control, a secondary controller is placed to reduce the frequency oscillations and to control power flow between the areas which are interconnected together. In this paper, along with the secondary controllers, energy storage devices are placed for better control of system frequency and tie line powers. Particle swarm optimization algorithm is chosen for obtaining proper control parameters for both units. Later, the effect of these additional components is compared with the conventional two area interconnected power system. Simulation studies are carried out in MATLAB-SIMULINK.
