Abstract

The impact of the combination of on-the-job and classroom training on the employability of Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) terminees is examined in this paper. The patterns reported here are for JTPA Title II-A terminees who completed a training activity in Missouri between July of 1984 and June of 1986. The results indicate that, while the combination of training activities appears to have enhanced the employability of program participants at the time of program termination relative to those receiving classroom only training, the impact on employability 1 year after termination disappeared. This indicates that the benefits from combined training are related to the ease of placement associated with on-site training, rather than to long-term human capital enhancement from program complementaries.
