Abstract
Modernisation of Railways demands performance and safety improvements. The advanced SSI-ATC synergy of the system developed by GEC ALSTHOM ACEC Transport (called ATBL-PLP system) gives an answer to these needs. The synergy is based on the combination of a computerised interlocking system with an up to date Automatic Train Control system, both used for many years on different Railways. The SSI-ATC system provides cab signalling and speed monitoring integrated with a SSI. which allows speed increase, headway and safety improvement, and high speed signalling at optimised costs.
