An approach to practical process synthesis is presented which allows a complete process feasibility study to be done in a workbench program. The approach integrates process structure selection with preliminary equipment dimensioning, costing, profitability and sensitivity analysis. The concept is interactive with the user so that the abilities of both can be utilized. The system is intended for preliminary process design and feasibility studies.
