Abstract

In this paper, a new channel estimation method combined with block equalization for a block transmission system over time-varying HF channels is presented. The channel impulse response (CIR) is approximated as a linear function of the time variable. With the help of training sequence inserted in the front and the end of data symbols, the time-varying CIR can be derived by linear interpolation. Based on the estimated CIR, the data symbols subject to the inter-symbol interference (ISI) can be easily recovered by block equalization rapidly. It can be seen from the simulation results that the proposed method is able to track the time-varying channel well, and a moderate bit-error-rate performance is achieved with a low complexity.
