Abstract

A numerical analysis of developing laminar flow between vertical parallel plates is presented for combined heat and mass transfer natural convection with uniform wall temperature and concentration boundary conditions. For long channels (low Rayleigh numbers) the numerical solutions approach the fully developed flow analytical solution. At higher Rayleigh numbers, the present results are compared with the available experimental data and numerical solutions for natural convection heat transfer in channels, and with external combined heat and mass transfer free convection similarity solutions for a single plate. At intermediate Rayleigh numbers, the parallel plate heat and mass transfer is higher than that for a single plate, similar to previous results for heat transfer only.
