Abstract
Congenital nasal masses such as dermoids, gliomas, and encephaloceles rarely occur and provide diagnostic and management challenges. Magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography both are helpful in characterizing the nasal mass and potential intracranial or skull base involvement. Multidisciplinary participation with otolaryngologists, neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, and head and neck radiologists is important in both the diagnosis and management of these unusual masses. Complete removal, prompt repair of skull base defects, and optimal aesthetic results are important in all cases. Newer surgical approaches such as the open rhinoplasty, transnasal endoscopic, and the combined transcranial-endoscopic techiques for management of congenital nasal masses are discussed.
