Abstract

SummaryJudging by the present material, intracardiac phonocardiography is not of any great benefit as a supplementary aid to ordinary cardiac catheterization for the differential diagnosis of various combinations of pulmonic stenosis and septal defect malformations. It may be possible, however, in certain cases of mild pulmonic stenosis, to differentiate trilogy from pentalogy by intracardiac, phonocardiography. Furthermore, if a tricuspid or mitral valve lesion is suspected, intracardiac phonocardiography may be of great assistance in diagnosing it. If no sound suggestive of atrial septal defect malformation has been detected, intracardiac phonocardiography is not indicated as a supplement to cardiac catheterization.
