Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of combination with colon dialysis and adsorption therapy using medicinal charcol on the blood calcium, phosphorus and uric acid in pre-dialysis patients with chronic renal failure. Methods Fifty tow pre-dialysis patients were randomly divided into treatment group and control group. In the treatment group,30 patients with mean age (53 ± 8) yrs were treated by combination with colon dialysis and adsorption therapy using medicinal charco] based on the control group,32 patients with mean age (54± 10) which only treated by standard conservative treatment. The changes of blood calcium, phosphorus, potassium, creatinine, urea and uric acid were evaluated after one month of treatment. Results In the treatment group, the levds of blood phosphorus,calcium-phosphorus product, uric acid and urea were significantly decreased after treatment (P < 0.01).In the control group, the levels of blood phosphorus and calcium-phosphorus product were significantly increased after treatment (P <0.01) and (P<0.05) respectively. The other indexes were not changed obviously before and after treatment. Conclusion Combination with colon dialysis and adsorption therapy using medicinal charcoal could effectively remove phosphorus and uric acid in patients with chronic renal failure and maybe an option of conservative treatment for pre-dialysis patients.
