Abstract

Multiple marker metabolomic profiling, where thousands of substances are monitored in a single analysis is an important part of metabolomics which may help to understand the processes in organism during diseases. In this paper, we present an interesting method for clarification of connection between latent toxoplasmosis and pathopsychological diseases such as schizophrenia. This method is based on multiple marker profiling in blood plasma samples of patients with latent toxoplasmosis vs. healthy individuals. The developed method consists of separation of analytes from blood plasma by solvent extraction, chromatographic separation by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with sensitive and selective mass spectrometric detection as well as with statistic data evaluation. Differences in metabolic processes in organism of patients with latent toxoplasmosis and control group have been observed. In particular, the identified structures were antioxidants, substances participating in oxidative processes in an organism or fatty acids.
