Abstract

Compressible and incompressible (+VOF) flow solvers are combined via immersed body techniques to simulate liquid/gas multiphase problems. Both solvers are run concurrently on the same mesh. In the compressible flow (i.e. gas) region the velocities of the liquid are imposed wherever liquid is present. For the incompressible (+VOF) flow (i.e. liquid) region, the pressures of the gas region are imposed wherever gas is present. Several examples demonstrate that the approach represents a viable alternative for the efficient simulation of multiphase problems.
