Abstract

In electric power systems, transformers and cables are needed to deliver electrical power to linear and nonlinear loads. However, the existence of nonlinear loads can cause harmonic in the electric power system. Harmonic can cause a significant temperature rise in transformers and cables. As a result, the performance of the transformer and cable become less effective. The purpose of this paper is to minimize harmonic distortion in the electric power system. The renewal in this paper is combination of detuned reactor and C-Type filter. In the method made several scenarios for comparison. The first scenario is the performance electrical power system under harmonic condition. The second scenario uses a C-Type filter. The third scenario uses a combination of detuned reactor and C-Type filter. The fourth scenario is almost the same as the third scenario, but the difference is that the detuned reactor is placed at a nonlinear load. The result is scenario 4 can minimize harmonic distortion better than other scenarios. Scenario 4 can reduce the value of THD-I to 4.07% and THD-V to 2.71%. In addition, the power factor increased to 86.3%.
