Abstract

Abstract As the availability of harvest labor has decreased, fresh blackberries have become scarce in retail outlets. This scarcity has resulted in the development of highly successful ‘pick-your-own” fruit operations in recent years. The most successful of such operations utilizes cultivars that are of good quality and produce large, attractive fruits. ‘Comanche’ has the characteristics needed for a fresh market blackberry. In addition, it can be mechanically harvested for processing.
