Abstract

Chromatographic separation of the neutral sugars, sucrose, raffinose, cellobiose, maltose, lactose, ribose, rhamnose, mannose, fructose, arabinose, galactose, and glucose, as a synthetic mixture, was performed in 7.5 hr on a newly available strong base anion-exchange resin, Beckman Type 1-S. Instrumentation and methodology similar to that of Green (10) were employed. Performance of the resin under various conditions of sample preparation, eluant ionic strength, and pH are reported. Methods are described for reduction of resin contamination and regeneration of the resin following contamination from such sources as borate buffer reagents and glass columns.
