Within the Department of Anesthesiology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, (NYPH/CUIMC) resiliency is reflected in classrooms, labs, hallways, and hospital units. The University's Margaret Wood Center for Simulation and Education was launched in 2016, where clinicians, fellows, residents, and faculty members hone their clinical skills through an entire spectrum of simulated learning exercises/lessons, from interdisciplinary teams and crisis resource management training. The center is named for – and recognizes the contributions of – the department's longtime chair, Margaret Wood, MBChB, FRCA, who was appointed in 1996 as the first woman to chair a clinical department at Columbia University.
